Employment at Adirondack LT

Employment through Silver Bay YMCA is required for participation in ADK LT.

There are two applications you are required to complete for this Program: the Collegiate LT assessment through Reliant and the application with the Silver Bay YMCA for employment. Acceptance as an employee of the YMCA is mandatory for participation in the Program.

Work requirement

Full-time work is part of the LT environment

As part of the Program, and as part of the employment agreement with the YMCA, each participant is required to work a full-time, 32-40 hours a week job. This provides an environment for meeting people, building natural relationships, and developing skills students will be learning throughout the summer.

How does employment at the YMCA work?

The Silver Bay YMCA employs all of our participants and houses them in their dorms. The YMCA pays at least New York minimum wage. Each week, a portion from your paycheck is applied to pay for food and housing. Every worker is guaranteed at least 32 hours per week, and there may be opportunities to work overtime at a higher rate of compensation.

Does LT guarantee employment?

The Program cannot guarantee anyone a job for the summer. Participation in the Collegiate LT Program requires that you apply for and receive employment from the Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks. Your hiring is completely up to the YMCA.

Further YMCA application instructions

On the YMCA application, where it asks "How did you learn about Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks," write "Reliant LT Program." This helps the YMCA include you in the prioritized LT applicant pool. You should also list at least the LT program dates as your arrival and departure window.

Have questions about ADK LT employment?

Acceptance into LT does not guarantee YMCA employment. Students need to complete both the Reliant assessment and the YMCA employment process.
